AmigaNet Policies and Proceedures I. General Overview A. AmigaNet and Its Purpose 1. AmigaNet is a network of Bulletin Board Systems (hereafter to be referred to as BBS) engaged in the support of the Commodore Amiga Computer. AmigaNet exists as a medium for the transmittal of files and messages to accomplish this end. 2. AmigaNet exists as an amatuer network. No member of AmigaNet shall be paid for his or her services. No system in AmigaNet shall charge any type of fee for access by users to message echoes. Sysops may participate in cost sharing. Cost sharing is when two or more systems in the same local calling area share the cost of long distance calls. B. Language 1. The official language for all international echoes in AmigaNet shall be English. The fact that many people do not speak or write english very well is an accepted fact (just read this policy and you'll see what I mean ). II. Organization A. Zones, Regions, and Nets 1. AmigaNet shall exist in as a series of Zones. Each Zone shall represent a series of geographical boundaries. Each Zone shall have a Zone Coordinator (hereafter to be referred to as ZC). Each ZC shall be responsible for the setup and control of a series of regions. Again, regions shall exist as a series of geographical locations inside of a particular zone. 2. Each Region shall be administered by a Regional Coordinator. Each Regional Coordinator shall be responsible for coordinating the activity of individual Nets. The Regional Coordinator shall assign Net numbers and Net Coordinators to various areas. 3. Nets are a series of systems located in a particular area, usually around a major city. An example is Net 706. This Net exists in the Cincinnati calling area and as such comprises all of Northern Ky, South West Ohio, and South East Indiana. Each Net is assigned a Net Coordinator. The Net Coordinator is responsible for recruiting new systems in his/her area into AmigaNet. It is the responsibility of each Net Coordinator to assign Node numbers for each new system in his or her area. 4. Nodes are the individual BBS' that make up AmigaNet. Each Node has a System Operator (herafter to be referred to as SysOp). It is the SysOp's responsibility to act within the guide lines set forth by the individual coordinators of AmigaNet. Each SysOp is responsible for all messages and files emanating from his/her system. Each SysOp is responsible for the actions of his/her users. 5. Points may exist in AmigaNet, however, all points will be treated as users of the individual Boss Node. A Boss Node is the individual system which allows a point to "feed" from his/her system. An example, Net 706 has a system with the address of 40:706/10 who lets another system, a point, receive echoes from him. The Point System is 40:706/10.1 and sends and receives via 40:706/10. This system, 40:706/10, is directly responsible for ALL actions of the Point System. 6. Control goes in the order of ZC, to Regional Coordinators, to Net Coordinators, and finally to the individual SysOp. C. Excommunication of Systems 1. At no time shall ANY Node, Net, or Region, provide any assistance to ANY system which may be excommunicated. Any system excommunicated shall be prohibited from taking part in ANY echoes or discussions and shall have their Node number removed from the Nodelist at the earliest possible moment. 2. Any system providing assistance to or passing AmigaNet echoes or files to any Excommunicated Node shall also be banned from AmigaNet. 3. Excommunication of a node shall follow a process by which the offending Node's actions shall be brought forth in front of the Coordinator's and a vote shall then ensue. Majority shall rule in this case. II. Numbering System A. How Numbers Are Issued and Their Meanings 1. There seems to be some confusion as to how systems are numbered. Henceforth, the following shall apply. a. Coordinators, (whether they be Zone, Regional; or Net), shall bear the designating Node Number of 0. That is, the Net Coordinator for Net 706 in Zone 40 would have the number 40:706/0. The number 40 designates he is in Zone 40, the 706 designates he is in Net 706, and the 0 designates he is the Coordinator. b. Echo Coordinators, (whether they be Zone, Regional; or Net),shall bear the designating Node Number of 1. Again, using Net 706 as an example, 40:706/1 would designate the Net Echo Coordinator for Net 706. c. Hubs shall bear designating Node Numbers greater than 1 but less than 10. This would allow each Net to have a maximum of 8 Hubs. Example, 40:706/1 is the Net Echo Coordinator for Net 706. d. Nodes shall bear any series of numbers 10 or greater. Example, 40:706/30 is Node Number 30 in Net 706.
